HP 250 G6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, my 250G6 has just been retired. Now have a 250G8.

Both have a single memory 8gb module and a spare slot. Both state they are DDR4 SO-DIMM.

Given the 4 year gap, would it still be possible to take the memory from the old laptop and increase the new to 16Gb.

Basically a trade off. More memory against possible loss of speed.

Grateful for any advice.

Hi:

You can try the older, slower DDR4 memory in the 250 G8, but it may not work.

The faster memory used in the G8 would be backward compatible with the G6, but the slower memory may not be forward compatible with the G8.

In other words, the processor may not support the slower running memory.

Faster speed memory bridges to match the slower running processor speed.

Thank you, I will leave well alone.
