Hi. On bootup (every time) my computer says there is a hard disk error and to press F2 for diagnostics. I did, and ran extensive diagnostics on the hard drive but all passed. I ran an extensive memory test and it failed. I decoded the failure ID (94G3J0-96HA1X-MFPURA=40PA03) and it says the memory "may need to be replaced".
My questions are:
1) How do I know for sure whether I need to purchase a new RAM chip?
2) How do I find which RAM to buy? The error page said it's slot 2 (which has an 8GB Hynix 2400MHz chip). But I know NOTHING about RAM. I tried following the HP product purchase page and could not find this specific product on there.
Could I just buy this for example? https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FF92ND3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
3) While in "sleep" mode with the lid shut, the fan is constantly running and the computer is getting very hot. This is not happening when the computer is in use. Is this typical of a RAM issue? I'm asking because perhaps I need to just get a new computer at this point.
Thanks!

Hi:
The error report indicates that the memory chip in slot 2 needs to be replaced.
No one will be able to tell you for sure if the report is 100% correct, but it usually is.
It's cheap enough to replace the failed memory chip if you can do it yourself.
I suggest buying a replacement chip from Crucial since they guarantee compatibility.

I recommend you get this one from the list.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the memory removal and replacement procedure.

I would have no idea if the memory is causing the other problem your notebook is having, and I doubt anyone else would either.
Replace the memory and see if that fixes all the issues you are having.

Thanks! I replaced the memory chip. I still get directed to the diagnostic screen on each boot up saying Hard Disk issue. I ran new memory diagnostic and it passed. HD passed, System passed. Diagnostics find nothing wrong now. So I suppose I'll have to take my laptop to a repair shop at this point unless there are any other ideas.

You're very welcome.
Sorry that replacing the memory module did not resolve the issue.
I guess you will have to take it to a shop, because I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.
I hope that the motherboard isn't shot.
