Hi:

Of the two you listed, this one is the one I would get if I had no other choice.

http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/420129/g-punt-skill-f3-1333c9d-8gsa.html

The SL memory is 1.35V = won't work.

I wish I knew what the difference was between the SA designator (what is sold in the Netherlands) and the SQ designator (for the memory sold in the USA).

Other than those two things, the memory specs are the same.

Maybe before you purchase, ask them at the contact us link...

Hi Provost

I just received the GSkill memory and I cannot thank you enough .... IT REALLY WORKS !!!!

Actually I ordered the F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ since  the tech support at GSkill said it would not matter as long as it was 1333 mHz.

I popped it in ... booted and ran Memcheck86+ and it ran through the full 8GB instead of crashing halfway.

Thanks again for the advice and quick answers.

Cheers !

Hi, Paul and Rob,

I read your posts before purchasing sodimms for the same laptop, 6550b, I had read from more people before about memory sodimms incompatibility problems with this laptop, so I just purchased the same gskill sodimms (same part number):

http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1333c9d-8gsa

Just after installing, I can see I have 8192MB on the bios info screen, but just after starting a memory test, it shuts down.  Trying to launch operating system, it gets frozen with colourful lines on the screen. So it seems to be a memory problem.

Did you have to upgrade bios to work with this kind of memory? Maybe memory sodimms are defect?

Regards and thanks for your help

Ivan

Just to confirm the advice given, I checked the specs for the 6550b and ordered the Kingston KVR13S9S8K2/8, which meets them No joy. Same symptoms as others have reported - Windows fails to boot, and the BIOS memory diagnostic fails to complete past 50%, let alone pass.

The Crucial site continues to recommend a completely inappropriate memory for the 6550b (wrong voltage and wrong speed).

I'm sure the G.Skill F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ would be fine, but I ordered the Corsair CMS08GX3M2A1333C9 from Amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9-1333mhz-PC3-10666-204-pin/dp/B002YUF8ZG/ ) for less money and with overnight shipping available ($4 for Amazon Prime). The Corsair memory is advertised as "1333 MHz PC3-10666". There is no difference, other than marketing-speak, between PC3-10600 and PC3-10666. The transfer rate is 10666.67 MB/sec. Some vendors call that PC3-10666 and some PC3-10600 because the number is commonly rounded down to hundreds.

The Corsair modules also have 8 chips per side rather than 4, so there may well be something to that.

OK, this is **bleep** already!  I have tried so many different memory sticks and I too can't get windows to boot into the desktop after giving this notebook (HP Eleitebook 8440p) 8 GB or GREAT MEMORY!  I never got another HP Elitebook 2170p notebook that would NEVER run with upgrading memory.  Either HP did something with their BIOS that rejects something when it's changed or something AIN'T RIGHT!

I guess at this point, WHATEVER!  Ready to trash HP products!
