14-ce05xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have read or seen somewhere that a BIOS update is required in order to upgrade the memory installed in a 14-ce05xx laptop.

This laptop has a single SODIMM slot and is currently fitted with an 8GB DDR4-2400 module and I would like to upgrade this to 16GB, but I am always wary about changing something like the BIOS if not needed - if it ain't broke don't fix it!

The installed BIOS is version F.05, so will F.05 support installing a 16GB module?

The HP support web site shows F.07 and F.17 available with F.17 supporting Win10 release 1903 that I am now using. Has anyone installed F.17 and was it a positive experience?

Hi,

It supports 16GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM no matter what BIOS is installed. (for the whole series of those notebooks)

The RAM will run at 2133MHz

Example:

https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/pavilion-14-ce0000ne#MEMORYFilters

Even if the service manual mentions a BIOS update, it is not necessary

On page 71 of service manual, you can see how to install RAM

Hope it helps,

David
