HP ZBook G5 16GB
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have HP ZBook G5 with 16 GByte - 1 by 16 GByte  SODIMM  according to Task Manager

Documentation states that only slots 3 and 4 are user upgradable - this is the case if undo cover, slots 3 and 4 are visible and empty.

Therefore can I add 16k SODIMM  in slot 3 if I want to upgrade to 32K?

I am presuming slot 2 is empty as will slot 4 be after the upgrade. Will this combination ( 16k in slots 1 and 3 ) work ok?

Thanks,

James

@smg60

You can use CPU-Z to check to see it is empty or not because machine can have valid congiguration: 8GB+8GB on slot 1 & 2.  And the valid configurations are

Support for DDR4 2666 MHz, dual channel memory
Support for 64-GB of system RAM in the following configurations:
DDR4-2666

● 65536-MB total system memory (16384-MB×4)

● 32768-MB total system memory (16384-MB×2 or 8192-MB×4)

● 16384-MB total system memory (16384-MB×1, 8192-MB×2 or 4096-MB×4)

● 8192-MB total system memory (8192-MB×1, 4096-MB×2)

ECC DDR4-2666 (for Xeon processors only)

● 65536-MB total system memory (16384-MB×4)

● 32768-MB total system memory (16384-MB×2 or 8192-MB×4)

● 16384-MB total system memory (16384-MB×1, 8192-MB×2)

● 8192-MB total system memory (8192-MB×1)

From there, looks like we would only use 16GB on slot 3 if no RAM on slot 2 on your machine.

Regards.
