Hello,

I would like to know if i can upgrade memory to 32GB to the HP Envy 17.3 Laptop 17-ch1000(436W9AV).

The model currently has 8GB and i would like it to be replaced.

Can i buy memory from any manufacturer?

Hi:

HP only has the service manual for the older 17-ch0xxx model series and according to chapter 1, the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

I am very sure that your notebook should be able to run 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory and you can do this to confirm:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

You can install any compatible DDR4-3200 memory chip, but I do not recommend you buy performance or gaming memory because the timing specs are faster than the standard DDR4-3200 memory chip HP installed in your notebook.

If the report shows you can install 32 GB of memory, then I recommend this brand/part number if you can get it in Serbia:

Buy 2 of them.

Thanks a lot. I can buy Crucial memory in Serbia.

Last question. Will adding memory alone void my warranty?

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

Since we don't work for or represent HP, we are not authorized to discuss warranty terms and conditions.

If you look at the section of the service manual for the removal and replacement of parts, HP wants the work done by an authorized service center.

What we have learned over the years is that you can do the upgrades yourself as long as you don't break anything in the process of doing the upgrade.  That would void the warranty.

If your notebook ever needs warranty service, you will need to return it to its original hardware configuration.
