Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 4 GB of DDR2-6400 (800 MHz).

Compaq PRESARIO CQ61-301SG User Guide Manual Operating Instructions (manualslib.com)

You posted that you are running W10 32 bit and if that is correct, there is no point in upgrading the memory unless you install a 64 bit operating system.

The product specs for your notebook indicate that it originally came with W7 64 bit.

Note that 2 x 4 GB DDR2-6400 memory chips will probably be expensive and difficult to find.

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to install a 2.5" SSD.

The Crucial memory/SSD report for your notebook indicates they sell SSD's that they indicate are compatible with your notebook.

The MX models have faster read/write speeds than the BX models.

HP - Compaq | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com

Your notebook's drive controller is only SATA II (3.0 GB/S) which means that the SATA III (6.0 GB/S) SSD will only run at the 3.0 GB/S transfer speed.
