Hello,

So basically I just replaced my battery. Just took out the old one and put new one in. Laptop seems to be working, its going through battery calibration now. Here is a thing though... I only now noticed that old battery has some metal squares attached to its corners... You can see them in the picture. Was I supposed to transfer those to new battery? New one seems like genuine HP battery but it did not have these metal things. They are glued to the battery casing. Idk what is their purpose, are they some sort of electromagnetic shielding for some sensitive internal parts?

No the bottom cover is the tub of the laptop...The battery for my Zbook 15 G3 also has metal mounting plates like that, at least the original did but the 3rd party aftermarket battery in it now did not. As long as you were able to bolt the battery in I see no harm but it is confusing.

I looked at the Service Manual, and images of both genuine replacement batteries and bottom covers. Did not see metal plates like you are showing. One of your images has not shown up yet, but a picture of the whole old battery and then the underside of the bottom cover would help.

Hey, thanks for taking your time to do that. Weird, picture was showing up fine before. Here is reupload:

By underside of the bottom cover do you mean the plastic thing that comes off? These metal plates are on the internal side of the laptop.

Mounting plates? Interesting. It did install just fine. Well I watched a full teardown of my laptop and it seems there are no internal components there, so I assume its all good. There are magnets that flank those plates on 2 sides though. Wonder if they are somehow connected.

Waaaaait is that it? When you said mounting plates, I assumed you meant to mount the battery inside. It is 360 laptop, so you can kinda flip the cover to turn it into sort of tablet. In tablet mode those metal plates would be on the back of the tablet facing outside. So the plates get magnetized maybe and you can use it to mount the tablet on a metal surface?

interesting idea I actually meant mount the battery. The case of the battery is kind of flexible plastic so the metal pieces add some rigidity is what I meant

Well guess we will never know. They got to have some purpose. I weighted them and they are 40 grams. I would assume they would not want to make laptop any heavier than it has to be without reason. I cut out those plates just in case. Not the smartest thing I ever did, accidentally punctured one of the pillows while I was at it. It is all fine, I did not go far enough and just let out some of the accumulated fumes out. It is in a fire safe container now, don't worry about that.

Anyway, I took away enough of your time. Thank you for the help,  take care.
