I have a 5 year old hp laptop (15g-dr0xxx, 8GB RAM, 1TB memory, battery has been changed twice now to Hp compatible battery) that includes Microsoft Office (Home & Student). Now, all of a sudden, my excel app is lost? It is no more there in 'all apps', I cannot even make a new excel sheet from desktop. I have the other MS apps but I have no clue how this happened. If I go to microsoft store, I'll have to buy MS Office separately, but I don't want to do that when my laptop technically comes built in with MS Office.

Hi @bhantared,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your Excel application might have been uninstalled or corrupted. Here are some steps you can follow to try and restore your Excel application without having to purchase a new license:

Step 1: Check for Microsoft Office in the Apps & Features

  1. Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Apps > Apps & features.
  3. Scroll through the list and look for Microsoft Office.
  4. If you find it, click on it and select Modify. Follow the prompts to repair the installation.

Step 2: Check for Office using Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant

Microsoft provides a tool called the Support and Recovery Assistant which can help diagnose and fix Office issues.

  1. Download and install the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant.
  2. Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and repair Office issues.

Step 3: Use the Office Uninstall Support Tool

If repairing Office doesn’t work, you can try completely uninstalling and then reinstalling Office.

  1. Download and run the Microsoft Office Uninstall Support Tool.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall Office.
  3. After uninstalling, restart your computer.

Step 4: Reinstall Microsoft Office

  1. Locate the product key for your Office Home & Student edition. It might be on a card in the original packaging or in an email if you bought it online.
  2. Visit office.com/setup.
  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
  4. Enter your product key and follow the prompts to download and install Office.

Step 5: Reactivate Office

  1. Open any Office application like Word or PowerPoint.
  2. You should be prompted to sign in with your Microsoft account. This will activate Office.

Additional Tips:

  • Check for Excel Files: Search for Excel files on your computer to see if the application opens when you try to open an existing Excel file.
  • Windows Update: Ensure your Windows is up to date, as updates can sometimes fix missing applications.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
