HP pavilion 15 Pentium silver N5000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So i got this brand new Hp pentium silver last year and it says i had 2 ram slots so some weeks ago i got an 8gb ram ddr4 to add to the 4gb already present

On disassembling the system i found out there isn't a second slot just a soace where it should be so i was wondering if it was wise to solder another ram slot unto the motherboard

Hi:

You wouldn't be able to solder another memory slot to the motherboard and have it work.

Models with the Pentium/Celeron processors only have one memory slot.

The reason the PC only has one memory slot is 8 GB is the maximum memory the processor can handle.

Here are the processor specs below...

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/128990/intel-pentium-silver-n5000-processor-4m-...

So even if you were the most skillful soldering technician in the world and somehow added a second slot, adding another 8 GB of memory to the PC wouldn't work because the processor couldn't handle it.

So...remove the 4 GB memory chip and replace it with an 8 GB memory chip to max out the memory.

You didn't lose anything because you didn't buy 2 x 8 GB of memory.  Now that would have been a shame.
