HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-f0000 (39R26AV)

I inserted a microSD card into the slot on the side of my PC. Rather than clicking into place like all other SD card readers I've used, the card just went into the machine and disappeared. When I look at File Explorer it does not show an SD card. And if I look inside the slot there is nothing I can pull back out. What is wrong? Where did my microSD go??? And how is the card supposed to be inserted to make sure it doesn't happen again?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

John

Hi @TorinoJohn

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You're definitely not the only one who's had this happen with the HP Spectre x360 16-f0000 series. Based on similar reports, it sounds like the microSD card may have slipped past the actual card reader slot and into the chassis—especially if it didn’t click into place and vanished without a trace.

Here’s what’s likely going on and how to handle it:

What Happened

  • The microSD slot is recessed and may not have a clear tactile “click” like other readers.
  • If the card was inserted at a slight angle or with too much force, it may have missed the connector and slipped into the internal casing.
  • Unfortunately, this means the card is not accessible via File Explorer, and you won’t be able to pull it out without opening the device.

What You Can Do

1. Inspect with a flashlight

  • Shine a light into the slot to see if the card is visible but misaligned.
  • If you can see it, avoid using tweezers or sharp tools, as they may damage internal components.

2. Contact HP Support

  • This situation may require professional disassembly to retrieve the card safely.

3. Prevent Future Issues

  • Always insert the microSD card label-side up, gently and straight.
  • Use a microSD-to-SD adapter if you prefer a more tactile insertion experience.
  • Avoid forcing the card—if it doesn’t feel right, stop and recheck alignment.

Let me know if you’d like help locating a local HP service center or our phone support team.

You’re clearly being careful—let’s make sure your Spectre stays in top shape.
