HP USB-C G5 Essential Dock

I've been running my 12/23 purchased HP Envy Laptop 16-h1047nr through my 12/23’ HP USB-C Essential Dock G5 since delivery, today both monitors stopped being detected, if I plug a monitor in to my laptop directly; it works so the problem appears to be isolated to the docking station.

I did recently take a Microsoft update to my Windows 11 OS.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/ideas.

Hi @Help_Needed_Pls,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP USB-C Essential Dock G5 might be facing an issue due to the recent Windows 11 update. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Restart Your Devices

  • Restart your laptop: A simple restart can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
  • Power cycle the dock: Disconnect the dock from the power source and your laptop, wait for about 30 seconds, then reconnect everything.

Check for Dock Firmware and Driver Updates

  • Visit HP's support site: Go to the HP Support website and search for your dock model. Look for any firmware updates or drivers specific to the HP USB-C Essential Dock G5.
  • Install updates: If there are updates available, download and install them.

Update Windows and Drivers

  • Check for Windows updates: Go to Settings > Windows Update and make sure your system is fully updated.
  • Update graphics drivers: Visit the website of your laptop's GPU manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) and download the latest drivers. Alternatively, you can use Device Manager to update the driver.
    • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the "Display adapters" section.
    • Right-click on your graphics card and select "Update driver".

Check USB-C and Power Connections

  • Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the dock and the laptop.
  • Make sure the dock is powered on and the power adapter is properly connected.

Test the Dock with Another Device

  • If possible, connect the dock to another laptop to see if the monitors are detected. This will help determine if the issue is with the dock or the laptop.

Roll Back Windows Update

  • If the issue started after a recent Windows update, you might want to consider rolling back the update to see if that resolves the problem.
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
    • Select "Uninstall updates" and choose the recent update to uninstall.

Check Display Settings

  • Sometimes, the display settings can be reset or changed after an update.
    • Go to Settings > System > Display.
    • Click on "Detect" under the Multiple displays section to see if Windows can find the monitors.
    • Make sure that the monitors are set up to extend or duplicate the display.

Reset the Dock

  • Some docks have a reset button or a sequence to reset them to factory settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
