HP pavilion 15-ak000na gaming laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)
Water was tipped into the laptop and shorted the motherboard on board electrical ite chip and fried two small chips on the board which are unidentifiable. Looked to get a replacement 832847-601 with i5-6300hq 2.3ghz with nvidia gtx 950M gcard.

The question I have is:
Is the board 832848-601 I7 6700hq 2.6ghz compatible with this laptop? It looks like a straight out swap as the motherboards look identical and all information I found on the processors/mobo say the same power consumption.
When I phones HP helpline for technical support the operator said the motherboards were not interchangeable without even hearing the model numbers and the "technical" assistant he forwarded me onto wouldn't tell me anything unless I told her a service number of the laptop which isn't attached.

Hopefully one of you guys or girls can help.... You're my only hope

Hi Al,

Yes the motherboard will be compatible with your PC and you can swap it out. On page 56 of service manual you can see all the compatible boards. You do not want to use the ones for 3D camera since I believe you do not have this device.

However you can definetly use the 832848-601. It also has the Skylake H processor so you do not need to replace the heatsink. (if you use one of the motherboards with Skylake U processor, you need also to replace the heatsink assembly.

Naturally it is going to be expensive fix.

You can also take a look at these HP videos for that model which can help with fix:

Thanks very much for the reply. It's nice to meet someone who can actually direct me to an answer instead of having a run around with the HP technical support on the phone.

I have ordered the new i7 which was actually cheaper than the i5 board (weird) and will install later this week. Can't wait.

Thanks again

Al
