I have purchased a new laptop (theCS0098tx) to replace the old. Being a lazy so and so, I hoped that I could lift to 2TB SSD out of the old, and transplant it into the new.
Well, it's worked - to a point.
- It boots up
- The video is fine
- Windows is still activated
- Built-in apps are working OK
What isn't so good is:
- There is no internet (either RJ45 or wifi), so I can't call on "higher powers" to assist me
- I've tried installing a couple of the utilities, but they keep telling me that they can't check back to base, so no help there.
- There are a number of items in the device manager that don't have drivers
- I have a complete set of drivers for the new PC (from HP), but I can't identify which ones to apply - the naming doesn't help, and there doesn't appear to be any description of which devices need which drivers.
Any assistance would be most welcome

More information.
I have run the HP PC Diagnostics Windows app, and the PC passes all tests, except the Wireless Module Test, where it identifies all the surrounding WiFi transmissions, including my own, but appears to stop responding during this test.
Does this imply some missing networking driver(s) other than the WiFi driver(s) (which appear, by this test, to be there and working.

Hi @JohnGlossop
Welcome to the HP Support Community. To assist you better, I would like to know the following:
How was the Operating system installed? Was it cloned or was a retail copy of windows installed on the SSD after the transplant was done?
- If a retail copy was installed, HP doesn't recommend it, as that's usually when the transplant goes haywire and Dr. Frankenstein's monster is created instead of something beautiful.
- we recommend using the HP recovery manager to reinstall the OS, as it installed a fresh copy of drivers and software your device needs to run without such issues.
- If the OS was preinstalled, it may not work on the new PC, as most files and software only work when it's installed on the new device.
- You may try updating the drivers using HPSA but that's OS-dependent, and may not work properly if the OS wasn't installed in the SSD after it was added to the new PC
- In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
- Check for updates.
- If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
- Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
