Hi @sri78,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing on your HP Chromebook x360 14, where multiple characters or actions are triggered with a single key press, could be due to a few potential causes. Here's how you can troubleshoot and possibly fix the problem.
Restart the Chromebook
- Sometimes a simple restart can fix keyboard glitches. Try restarting your Chromebook by holding down the power button or using the shutdown option from the system tray.
Check for Chrome OS Updates
- An outdated Chrome OS version could cause keyboard issues. Here's how to check for updates:
- Click on the time in the bottom-right corner.
- Go to Settings > About Chrome OS.
- Select Check for updates and install any available updates.
- Restart your Chromebook after the update.
Reset Keyboard Settings
- Sometimes customized keyboard settings can cause problems.
- Go to Settings > Device > Keyboard.
- Check the settings for key functions such as search, tab, and brightness keys.
- Reset the keys to their default function if you notice any unusual configurations.
Hard Reset
- Performing a hard reset on your Chromebook can resolve hardware-related issues, including keyboard glitches.
- Turn off your Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Refresh key and then press the Power button.
- Release both keys once the Chromebook restarts.
Test in Guest Mode
- Sometimes user profile-specific issues can cause problems with the keyboard. To check if this is the case:
- Log out of your account.
- Click on Browse as Guest on the login screen.
- Test the keyboard in guest mode. If it works fine, there might be an issue with your account’s settings, and resetting it could help.
Check for Physical Damage or Dust
- Clean the keyboard with compressed air to remove dust or debris that may be affecting the keys.
- Inspect the keyboard for any signs of physical damage.
Powerwash (Factory Reset)
- If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your Chromebook to factory settings. This will remove all local data, so be sure to back up anything important.
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset Settings.
- Click on Powerwash and follow the on-screen instructions to reset your device.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
