So I recently had an issue with my volume going up on it's own, some HP updates managed that but my volume up button - f8 is not working. Also my laptop has a little light on mute button, which suddenly stopped working as well.

I have no idea what to do with this issue.

There could be several reasons why the mute button (F6) light and the volume up button (F8) on your HP laptop are not working. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue.

 

  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix the issue. Save any unsaved work and restart your laptop to see if the problem persists.
  • Update your drivers: Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause issues with your laptop's functionality. Check if there are any pending driver updates for your laptop and install them.
  • Check your audio settings: Ensure that the audio settings on your laptop are configured correctly. Go to the Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab and check if the correct audio device is selected. Also, check the levels and ensure that they are not muted or too low.
  • Check for hardware issues: There might be a hardware issue with your laptop's keyboard or audio system. Try connecting an external keyboard and see if the mute button and volume up button work with it. If they do, the problem might be with your laptop's keyboard.
  • Perform a system restore: If the issue started recently, try performing a system restore to revert your laptop to an earlier point in time when everything was working correctly.
