Common problems for Battery

Hello,

Our HP 15s-1002na battery just exploded!! It was on charge and suddenly blew up with flames coming out of it. It has ruined our rug, luckily we were home to turn off the power as it would have burned the house down.

After some quick searches it is clear that this is a terrible problem that others have faced with this model so I can only assume that the batteries are not fit for use. Someone even mentioned they had a recall out. I would like to speak to someone about this at HP.

Beware of Fake Sites

Be very careful when out on the Internet looking for help - one little dot, space, or letter out of place can land you in trouble.

The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.

There are many “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.

If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your printer or computer OR if the “help” wants to sell you software, threatens you, or wants access to your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!

HP Services and Contact Information

Online Case Submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices registered and are still in Warranty.

Some (Most) regions display phone / chat contact information only after the case is submitted online.

Not every issue is covered under the standard Hardware Warranty.  Purchased Care Pack Warranties differ by contract.

HP is not a "general" repair facility: Requests for out-of-warranty repairs are usually not accepted.

If the problem is hardware, if your device is in Warranty, if your device is Registered, and you cannot submit your case to Support, let us know and we will forward a request.

Can this please be escalated to a specialist team? I have a laptop that almost just set my house on fire and has put our lives at risk. We are now left with a burnt laptop with burn marks on our rug.

Hi @Jamie2143

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m truly sorry to hear about the frightening experience with your HP 15s battery. Safety is the absolute priority in such situations. Here are precautionary measures you should take immediately:

Immediate Safety Steps

  • Do not touch the battery: Avoid handling it directly, as ruptured batteries can leak chemicals and remain hot.
  • Ventilate the area: Open windows and doors to disperse any fumes.
  • Turn off and unplug the laptop: If it’s still connected to power, disconnect it carefully without touching the battery.
  • Keep away from flammable materials: Move the device to a non-combustible surface (like tile or concrete).
  • Do not attempt to reuse or recharge: The battery is unsafe and must not be reinserted or powered again.

I'm sending you a private message to guide you on the next steps.

To access it, click the private message icon in the upper-right corner of your HP Support Community profile, next to your name.

If this resolves your issue, kindly mark this post as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" if it was helpful.

Take care and have a great day!
