HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP ENVY heats up to 93 degrees C / 200 F on startup and can get to the low 90'sC again under load.

I've updated my BIOS to version F.15 AMD ADESA RenoirPI-FP6 1.0.0.4, 11/12/2020.

I've set the run performance to comfort as opposed to optimal or performance. I've not yet changed to the Fan-always-on mode.

Is this extremely high temperature normal on start-up and heavy load?

Please advise.CPU.pngTemps.pngmainboard-BIOS.png

HP Support replaced the heat-sink and returned the laptop.

The high temps of 93 C / 200 F are definitely too high for this CPU/laptop.

The rest temp of the CPU is now 28 C - 38 C.

And load temp peaks at 67 C / 152 F and then the FAN kicks on and it drops to 60 C / 140 F as steady state under 100% sustained load.

Once I killed the load and returned to at-rest, the temps dropped quickly to 32 C/ 90 F.

I suspect the heat-sink was not properly applied in the factory (thermal paste not applied completely?), which is very odd. If it fails again, I'll update this thread.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

HP does not recommend to use Third-party measuring apps as they are not tested by HP and may not be accurate.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for the response. I grew impatient and contacted HP Support. A support rep took control of my laptop remotely and checked for all updates. He confirmed all updates had been applied. He opened a ticket and had me ship my laptop in for service. The laptop has been received by HP earlier today. I can post when I know more.
