HP Elitebook 840 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Would you like to help me?

My laptop is an HP Elitebook 840 G2.

My notebook does not charge while it's plugged in. Actually there are two cases:

--If it is not plugged in, the battery level keeps lowering at a normal rate.

--If it is plugged,  the battery stays stuck in the level at which it was before connecting it.

Now I am at the level of 35% but since I keep my computer plugged in it does not decrease.

I tried many solutions I read about on the internet. None of them worked

--uninstalling and then installing the ACPI compliant control battery; updating the driver;

--Turning the computer off, removing battery and the adapter and the battery+ pressing the power button for a whole minute.

--tried updating the chipset and Bios...the Bios did not want to update..I get a message that it cannot be updated if the computer is not plugged in.

--I tried to remove the battery and turning on the computer only using the ac adapter; it did not work.. when I press the power button computer turn on  for a fraction of a second and then goes dead.

--I tried testing and calibrating the battery using; HP Support Assistant, it tells me that the battery is OK. while the test is canceled automatically if I use HP diagnostics software.

It will be great if someone can help.

Thank you,

Hello @slaetchman,

What happens when you leave the computer charging overnight while it's turned off?

There's a chance that the AC adapter is failing. The best way to test this would be to try out a spare AC adapter that you or someone you may know owns but try the overnight charging first.

I have the same problem and have gone through the same routine. But when I used the HP diagnostics (component test NOT system tests) it it run the tests a i no longer saw the "automatic cancelation" but  "Charging status - fuse blown".
