I had to replace the "top cover with keyboard" on my HP Laptop,Model 17-by3065st, because the threaded inserts that the small bolts that hold the display hinges in place had begun to break apart and the hinges were breaking loose from the base of the computer.
So in order to do that on my laptop model you have to take of every component in the body of the computer since they are all attached to the top cover/keyboard assebly.
So I did that. I replaced it with the backlit version of the top cover/keyboard for my computer model, since my eyesight is getting bad enough that it's getting very hard to se the keys.
So after taking apart and reassembling everything according to the instructions in the HP youtube videos and the HP Maintenance and Service Guide, I charged the battery and pressed the power button.
The little light in the caps lock key blinked for about half a second and then went dark. Other than that the computer would not turn on at all.
I opened the computer housing back up and checked and rechecked all the wire and ribbon connections and they were all good. I took a photo of everything inside and where it was connected before I started disassembling it and after I put everything back together. Everything is where is should be and the connectors are in the right places and connected correctly. The only thing that was different in connecting the backlit keyboard assembly was a small ribbon about 1/4 wide that fit into a connection on the motherboard that had the letters BL next to it, where the manual says the backlight ribbon from the keyboard should go. My original non-backlit version did not have the cable to attach to the connector, other than that everything was the same.
So I'm wondering what to do now.
My initial thoughts are that either the power switch is defective, but that seems unlikely, since the keyboard/cover assembly is brand new, or else that the battery is defective, since it's almost 3 years old and it was disconnected from the computer and thereby the charger for about 5 days while I waited for the new "top cover/keyboard" to arrive in the mail.
I've ordered a new battery and am waiting for it to come. Is there anything else that I should check other than what I already checked?
I should mention that other than the loose hinge there was never any problem with this computer starting, stopping, or running for the nearly 3 years that I've had it, until I replaced the top cover/keyboard unit the other day.
