Hi. My HP12C is very new I just got it this year, but I haven't been placing it in its case. Now the problem is it doesn't switch on anymore. Is it possible that it got damaged in my bag and if so what should I because I have exams in 3 weeks.

Hi @zekhethelo,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP12C calculator is not turning on, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:
1. Check the Battery
- Replace the battery: The most common issue with a non-functioning HP12C is a drained or faulty battery. The HP12C uses a CR2032 coin battery. Try replacing it with a fresh one.
- Reinsert the battery: If the battery isn't making proper contact, removing and reinserting it can sometimes help.
2. Perform a Reset
- Soft reset: Press and hold the ON button for several seconds. If that doesn't work, try pressing and holding the ON button and the Minus (-) key at the same time for a few seconds.
- Hard reset: Remove the battery, wait for about 30 seconds, then reinsert the battery and try turning the calculator on again.
3. Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect for visible damage: Since you mentioned carrying it without its case, check if the calculator has any visible dents, cracks, or broken buttons that may have occurred in your bag. A strong impact may have caused internal damage.
- Buttons stuck: Sometimes buttons can get stuck due to pressure. Ensure that none of the buttons are stuck or jammed, as that could prevent the calculator from turning on.
4. Try the Paper Trick
- If the battery compartment is loose, you can fold a small piece of paper and place it over the battery to ensure it makes better contact with the terminals.
5. Examine for Liquid Damage
- If there’s a possibility of moisture exposure, gently dry the calculator by leaving it in a dry environment for a few hours. You can also use silica gel packets to absorb moisture.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
