HP Laptop PC 15-dy2000
Microsoft Windows 11

My hp laptop battery is brand new with a 3 week ussage, and out of nowhere my laptop is starting to decrease my 20%. Like it was at 85% at 10am then at 11am it went to 64%. then I charged it to 72% at 12:pm then it went down to 50% at 1. 2 days before I had to calibrate my battery and now when I do my battery check it says normal. Idk if this is normal or if its bad? Do I have to send it in for repair?

@Jacob__

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand the laptop battery is discharging quickly to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did you make any changes to the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Resetting the ACPI battery driver may take care of this. There will be a hard reset mixed in as well, so the two methods combined typically help a lot with battery issues.

  • 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
  • 2. Expand batteries.
  • 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
  • 4. Shut down the computer.
  • 5. Disconnect the charger.
  • 6. Remove the battery.
  • 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
  • 8. Insert the battery only.
  • 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

If this had an impact, it should behave differently. If not, Press the power button and then tap the F2 key to invoke the startup menu.

Choose and click on the F10 key to invoke the BIOS.

Use the System Configuration tab. Disable USB Charging and press the F10 key to save the changes and boot into Windows.

I would suggest please update the BIOS on your PC and check if it helps.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

@Jacob_

Thank you for posting back.

You don't have to remove the battery if your battery is sealed or non-removable.

Now just restart the computer that should install the drivers and correct the issue.
