HP Omen 870-213w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Omen that has sat for over a year and now I added a new ssd and tried to start it it won't run with both sticks of ram in and nothing is broken cause I've swapped motherboards with a hp pavilion with the exact same board and both sticks work with the i5-7400 cpu in that one but the omen with the i7-7700 won't run both sticks even with the other motherboard. Anyone have any clue what's wrong?

@PhillipAT Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the omen computer will not run with two memory.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

I have checked the specification of your product, your computer supports only 16GB memory.

  • Amount: 16 GB

  • Speed: PC4-17000 MB/s

  • Type: DDR4-2133

Please make sure that both memories have the same speed.

Please try to swap the memory and check.

Also, try to install one by one and check.

Please perform the memory test and check.

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) Go to the Component test.

5) From the list, run the Memory (extensive) test.

When a stick is in the slot closest to the cpu the computer won't turn on it just does 3 long beeps then 3 short beeps which is memory error on the IPM17-DD2 motherboard I believe.

@PhillipAT

Thank you for the update.

That means that is the faulty memory. You have to replace that memory.

Have a nice day!!

Nope that memory stick works in the other slot so I'm assuming my motherboard is broken I was just hoping there was some kind of update or something but I even tried updating the bios and nothing that slot is still dead.

I just thought that if its reading the slot saying memory issue the slot was good because if it's dead would it even beep?

HP Recommended

Yes if its dead it won't beep but it can be bad without being completely dead. Its the slot I'm sorry to say
