HP Pavilion 590-p0035t

I've seen that on my parts list, as well as the advertised specs when I bought this PC, that there were supposed to be 12 GB's of RAM in total, apparently one stick with 4 and the other with 8. However I've noticed that my PC was running very slowly, and so I checked my Task Manager to see what was clogging up my CPU/RAM. To my surprise, I only had 4 GB of RAM according to my Task Manager, a whole 8 GB short of the 12 GB advertised when I ordered this PC. I asked ChatGPT this and was recommended to get in there and see if a stick was loose. I have never personally worked with PC parts before and I want to confirm oncemore if this is the right thing I should be doing just in case I mess up anything digging around in the PC. Please reply ASAP because I want to get this problem out of the way and I'm so sick of my PC being so sluggish. To sum this up, I'm asking if there's a reason why my PC is short of RAM, and should I dig into it to see if there's a loose RAM stick?

Its a desktop. Relatively easy to remove a panel and inspect. Either they shorted you an 8 gb stick of memory, you have a bad stick of memory, the memory slot (motherboard) has gone bad or the 8 gb stick is not seated. This is not a new model. How long have you had it?
