HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cn0012dx
Microsoft Windows 11

I make music and have digital sounds/instruments. My battery stays at 0% and doesn't charge when plugged in. And when I turn it on while it's plugged in, it shuts off in about 20 seconds. How do I fix this because I am trying to recover all my music files onto a new computer and hard drive.

Hi @Reis4

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Based on the information provided, it seems that your HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cn0012dx is experiencing battery issues that prevent it from charging and keeping power. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Steps to Fix Battery Problems

Check the Power Adapter:

  • Ensure the power adapter is plugged into a working outlet.
  • Verify the adapter is the correct one for your HP ENVY x360 and is providing power.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and try to turn on the laptop.

Update BIOS:

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve power issues. Visit HP Support and search for your specific model to download the latest BIOS update.

Perform a Battery Test:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant to perform a battery test. It can help diagnose if the battery is faulty.

Check for Battery Driver Issues:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand the "Batteries" section.
  • Uninstall "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery".
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
  • If the steps above do not resolve the issue, it might be a hardware failure.

Recovering Your Music Files

Using External Storage:

  • Use an external USB hard drive or an SSD to transfer files. However, first, you need to keep the laptop running long enough to access files.

Accessing Hard Drive Directory:

  • If your laptop doesn’t stay on long enough, consider removing the hard drive and connecting it to another computer using a SATA to USB adapter.
