My HP laptop won't turn on

Hi @Cristianmosa2

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for reaching out. I understand how frustrating it must feel when your HP laptop doesn’t power on—let’s walk through some clear, step-by-step checks to help bring it back to life.

Step 1: Check for signs of power

  • Press the power button and observe if there’s any sound (like fans), light (on the power button, keyboard, or side LEDs), or screen flicker.
  • If there’s no response at all, continue with the next steps.

Step 2: Remove external devices

  • Disconnect everything: USB drives, external monitors, printers, and even the power adapter.
  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.

Step 3: Perform a hard reset

  • With the battery removed (if applicable) and power adapter unplugged:
    • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect only the power adapter (leave the battery out for now if it’s removable).
    • Press the power button once and check for any response.

Step 4: Try a different power source

  • Plug the adapter into a different wall outlet.
  • If available, try using a compatible HP power adapter to rule out adapter issues.

Step 5: Check the power LED and adapter

  • Look for a light near the charging port or on the adapter brick.
  • If there’s no light, the adapter might not be delivering power.

Step 6: Try a BIOS reset (if screen turns on but doesn’t boot)

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
  • If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.

Let’s see how your laptop responds to these steps. If it shows any signs of life—lights, sounds, or screen flickers—please share the details so we can continue from there.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
