Hi @Eric342
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating that your "W" key isn't working. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
Check Keyboard Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Typing and make sure there aren’t any settings that could affect keyboard input.
Update Keyboard Drivers:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section, right-click your keyboard device, and select Update driver.
Run Keyboard Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Keyboard and run the troubleshooter.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Make sure your Windows is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security and check for updates.
External Keyboard Test:
- If possible, connect an external USB keyboard to see if the "W" key works on that. This can help determine if it’s a hardware issue with your laptop's keyboard.
Keyboard Settings in BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F10, ESC, or DEL during startup).
- Check if the keyboard works in the BIOS. If it does, the issue may be with Windows settings or drivers.
Hardware Issue:
- If none of the above solutions work, it may be a hardware issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
