The manual shows the laptop is from the 2010 model year.
The battery is not made to last forever. It will need to be replaced
Does the charge/power LED light up when the power adapter is plugged in and connected to mains power?
If that is the original battery, I am not surprised that it has reached the end of its service life.
Compatible battery (from the Maintenance & service guide) Chapter 3, page 23, item 20

Thanks for clarifying the issue with my 14 year old battery! Time flies eh? One question please.... Will my pc run without the battery installed ie directly from the mains. I ask because the pc is just not working if I try without battery?
Appreciate your support!

That is a maybe. The problem is that the BMS battery management system chips in the battery and the laptop won't communicate if the battery is locked. The battery is locked when the battery management system (bms) chips recognize that the cells are below one volt. Even a hardware reset of the EC chip on the laptop system board won't help with that.
You can try a new battery, but there is no guarantee that it will charge.
