My hp Pavilion - 17 - ar059wm laptop will not physically open. I do not understand why since it was opening fine. It will only open 2 inches.
I am afraid to force it open for fear I might crack something.
What could be the reason for this happening? Is there anything I can do?
I cannot use my computer if I can not open it.
Any suggestions would be truly appreciated.

Hi.
Sorry to hear about that. This is a unique issue. I have never heard this one before.
A failing or stuck hinge is a possibility.
Is your notebook still in warranty?

My laptop is not still under warranty. I do not understand why it would just get stuck like this. As I have said, I appreciate any help or advice about what I could do to try to open the laptop without damaging it.

I would open the notebook by using a non-conductive silicon spray at the hinges and then gently applying pressure to persuade it to open.
If you don't feel confident enough in your mechanical and technical abilities, it may be best to have a shop do it for you.
What happened to your notebook hinges is not unheard of, but also not common.
