Hi @Nitu4717,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If one of the RAM slots in your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv0000 is not working, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the black screen issue when installing a new RAM module:
1. Test the RAM Module in the Working Slot
- Touch: Remove the new RAM from the non-working slot and insert it into the slot that you know is functioning properly.
- Sight: Turn on the laptop and see if it boots successfully with just the new RAM installed. This will confirm whether the RAM itself is working.
2. Inspect the Non-Working RAM Slot
- Touch + Sight: Carefully inspect the non-working RAM slot for any visible damage or debris. Look for bent pins or signs of physical damage.
- If necessary, clean the slot gently with compressed air to remove any dust or debris that could be interfering with the connection.
3. Check RAM Compatibility
- Sight: Ensure that the new RAM module is compatible with your laptop. Check specifications for type (DDR4), speed (e.g., 2400 MHz), and voltage.
- You can also refer to the HP Support website or documentation to verify compatibility.
4. Re-seat the RAM Modules
- Touch: Remove both RAM modules (the working one and the new one) and re-seat them carefully in their respective slots. Ensure they are firmly seated and that the clips on the sides click into place.
- Sight: Double-check the orientation of the RAM modules to ensure they are correctly aligned.
5. Test with Only the Original RAM
- Touch: Remove the new RAM module and reinstall the original RAM that you know works in both slots individually.
- Sight: This will help determine if the issue is related to the new RAM, the RAM slot, or potentially another component in the laptop.
6. Reset BIOS Settings
- Touch: If the laptop still does not boot after the previous steps, try resetting the BIOS:
- Turn off the laptop, then turn it on and repeatedly press F10 to enter the BIOS setup.
- Once in the BIOS, look for an option to Load Defaults or Restore Factory Settings, save changes, and exit.
If the non-working slot continues to show issues after these steps, it could indicate a hardware failure on the motherboard related to that specific RAM slot. In this case, contacting HP Phone Support or a service center is advisable.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
