When I access private mode by pressing FN plus F2, my keyboard starts to display signs instead of numbers, the enter key does not work and when I press the p key the airplane mode is activated, I don't know how I can fix this.

Hi @M1chi,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
It sounds like the keyboard on your HP x360 1020 is experiencing unexpected behavior when you activate private mode (Fn + F2). This could be due to a software or firmware issue, or a conflict with keyboard settings. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Keyboard Layout Settings
Ensure that the keyboard layout is set correctly:
- Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Go to Time & Language: Select Time & Language.
- Select Language: On the left pane, click Language.
- Check Preferred Languages: Ensure that the correct language and keyboard layout are set. Click on the language and select Options to verify the keyboard layout.
2. Turn Off Sticky Keys and Other Accessibility Features
Sometimes, accessibility features like Sticky Keys can interfere with keyboard functionality:
- Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Go to Ease of Access: Select Ease of Access.
- Select Keyboard: On the left pane, click Keyboard.
- Turn Off Sticky Keys: Ensure that Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, and Filter Keys are turned off.
3. Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers
Ensure that your keyboard drivers are up to date:
- Open Device Manager: Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards: Find and expand the Keyboards section.
- Update Driver: Right-click on your keyboard device (e.g., Standard PS/2 Keyboard) and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Reinstall Driver: If updating doesn't work, try uninstalling the driver (right-click and select Uninstall device), then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
4. Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates
Updating the BIOS/UEFI can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues:
- Open HP Support Assistant: Search for HP Support Assistant in the Start menu and open it.
- Check for Updates: Look for any available BIOS updates and install them.
- Restart the Laptop: After updating, restart your laptop and check if the issue is resolved.
Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @M1chi,
Please find the next set of steps below.
5. Reset Keyboard Settings
Reset any custom keyboard settings that might be causing the issue:
- Open Control Panel: Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter.
- Go to Keyboard Settings: Navigate to Clock and Region > Region > Administrative > Change system locale....
- Reset Input Methods: Ensure the input methods and regional settings are correct. Click OK to save changes and restart your computer.
6. Test in Safe Mode
Booting into Safe Mode can help determine if third-party software is causing the issue:
- Restart in Safe Mode: Restart your laptop and press Shift while selecting Restart from the Start menu. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and restart again to select Safe Mode.
- Test Keyboard: Test the keyboard in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it doesn't, a background application or service might be causing the problem.
7. Check for Conflicting Software
Think about any new software or updates installed around the time the issue started:
- Review Installed Programs: Go to Settings > Apps and review recently installed programs. Uninstall any software that might be conflicting with the keyboard.
- Perform a Clean Boot: Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items. Restart your laptop and test the keyboard.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware problem or a deeper software conflict. Contact HP phone Support for further assistance or consider visiting a certified repair center.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
