Hii, I have recently updated my  HP 14s fq1xxx. After that some keys and backlight stopped working and I checked for the BIOS update. There it is showing it is up to date. Could you please help me to resolve my issue.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi @Brammi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP 14s fq1xxx laptop's keyboard backlight and some keys are not functioning after a recent update. You can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check Keyboard Backlight Settings:

  • Use the keyboard function key combination (usually Fn + Backlight key) to toggle the backlight. Verify if it is enabled.

Examine Physical Connections:

  • Check if there's any visible debris under the keys or if any keys feel loose.
  • Gently clean the keyboard using compressed air to remove dust that may be obstructing key function.

Device Manager Check:

  • Open Device Manager on your computer.
  • Under the Keyboards section, ensure the keyboard is recognized without errors (no yellow or red markings).

Update Keyboard Driver:

  • Update drivers via Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the keyboard device and select Update driver.
    • Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.

Check Keyboard and BIOS Settings:

  • Even though your BIOS is up-to-date, double-check keyboard-related settings in the BIOS:
    • Enter BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10, F2, or Esc during startup).
    • Look for keyboard backlight settings and ensure they are set correctly.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant tool to diagnose and obtain any additional updates that may not have been applied:

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and battery, then power on the laptop.

Advanced Diagnostics:

  • Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to perform component tests on the keyboard:
    • Restart the laptop and press F2 repeatedly to access the diagnostics tool.
    • Run the keyboard test to identify any specific hardware issues.

      I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
