HP Notebook - 15-ay540tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Guys,

I had accidently pressed some buttons on my laptop keyboard (i don't know which keys) and ever since, the keyboard and the touch pad stopped working.  The only keys that work is the Power button and the brightness low (F2) and high (F3)  keys.

I had tried updating and re-installing the keyoard via device manager, but no luck.

Can anyone please help. Thanks in advance.

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with the Keyboard. Don't worry I'm here to help.

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Hard Reset -
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.
3) Remove the Battery.
4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.
5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer.
6) Try to turn on the computer.

Step 2 BIOS Defaults -
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F10 once for BIOS.
4) Press F9 for BIOS defaults.
5) Press F10 to save and exit.

Step 3 Re-install the Keyboard drivers -
1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) Double-click Keyboards.
3) Right click on the keyboard drivers and click on uninstall.
4) Restart the computer.

If the issue still persists, run the Keyboard test -

1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once.
4) Go to Component test.
5) From the list, run the Keyboard test.
