I bought this laptop on 19th March, 2024 and its just been 10 days and battery has started draining very fast from the first day of use. I use my laptop hardly once in 3-4 days that too for just 4-5 hours. Main use is youtube acrobat pdf reader and chrome. Even when the laptop is shut down and turning it on after 3-4 days 20-30% battery is drained. Kindly assist on the matter, is there any background application that is consuming so much of battery or anything else that needs to be done from my end.

Hi @15s-fq5185TU,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Fast battery drain in a new laptop can be concerning, especially given the minimal usage pattern you've described. Let's go through a checklist of potential causes and solutions:
1. Check Background Applications and Processes
- Windows laptops often have many applications and services running in the background that can consume battery power. Use the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to see if any applications are using a significant amount of resources.
- Specifically, check for any bloatware or pre-installed software that you don't need, as these can sometimes run unnecessary processes in the background.
2. Battery Report
- Generate a battery report to get detailed information on your battery usage and health. To do this, open Command Prompt as administrator and type powercfg /batteryreport. This will save a battery report in HTML format to your user directory. Review this report for any anomalies, especially in the battery capacity and usage sections.
3. Windows and Driver Updates
- Ensure your laptop's operating system and all drivers, especially the battery driver, are up to date. HP often release updates that improve battery performance and fix known issues.
4. Power Settings Adjustment
- Adjust your power settings to optimize battery life. Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep and adjust the screen and sleep settings to be more battery-friendly.
- Consider using the "Battery saver" mode when your battery is low.
5. Monitor Screen Brightness and Peripheral Usage
- High screen brightness and the use of peripherals (external mouse, keyboard, USB devices) can drain the battery faster. Reduce the screen brightness and disconnect peripherals when not in use.
6. Hardware Checks
- Although less likely given the laptop's newness, hardware issues can also cause battery drain. This includes faulty batteries or issues with other components that cause the system to use more power.
7. Battery Calibration
- Sometimes, the operating system's battery meter calibration with the actual battery charge can be off, especially in new devices. Look up the battery calibration process for your specific laptop model to ensure the system accurately reads the battery level.

8. Check for Fast Startup
- Windows Fast Startup feature can cause issues with some systems, including battery drain when the laptop is supposed to be off. Try disabling it from Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable. Uncheck the box for Turn on fast startup (recommended) and restart your laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
