We could probably give better advice if you gave us the model number so we could know the specifications. No way to know what battery you need and where to get it otherwise. The most common reason for a "slow" computer is hard drive issues which would be very common after 9 years of use. More memory might help, too but we need to know if you can add more. The biggest speed improvement would come from replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive, and that should be possible even on a 9 year old laptop.

We'll need to know the Model Number or Product ID to see the specifications of your laptop. See here to find them- https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108

i5-2450M which is still a useable processor but only 2 gigs of memory. Slow 500 gig 5400 rpm hard drive. So I would upgrade the memory (DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM) to at least 4 gigs and preferably 8 gigs. Here is the Service Manual:

I would also replace the slow mechanical hard drive with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD. See pages 35-42 of the Manual for "how to". Its very easy to do as there is an access door for upgrading.
