Hi @Swarnamalya,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop is showing “Plugged in, not charging” along with a 601 battery error, and it’s affecting your ability to study. Let’s go step by step to try to fix this.

a. Check Physical Connections

Ensure the charger is firmly connected to both the laptop and the wall outlet.

Try another wall outlet to rule out power fluctuations.

Inspect the charger cable and adapter for any damage, frays, or bent pins.

b. Perform a Hard Reset

Turn off the laptop and unplug the charger.

Remove the battery if it’s removable.

Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain residual power.

Reinsert the battery (if removed) and plug in the charger.

Power on the laptop and check if it charges.

c. BIOS and Battery Check

The 601 error usually indicates a battery failure or charging circuit issue.

Restart the laptop and enter BIOS (F2 during boot).

Check if the battery is detected and if the status shows charging.

If BIOS shows battery missing or failed, it’s likely a hardware issue.

d. Update or Reset Drivers

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Batteries.

Right-click each item (Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery) → Uninstall device.

After uninstalling, click Action → Scan for hardware changes to reinstall drivers.

Restart your laptop and check if it charges.

e. Power Management Settings

Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings.

Expand Battery → Critical battery action and ensure nothing is preventing charging.I hope this helps.
