As the subject tells, My laptop is not using my NVDA RTX 4060 gpu while playing games, it uses intel GPU.
First of all, last updated BIOS version is f.19 and I CAN'T SELECT whichever gpu to use on BIOS nor on anywhere.
I tried everything i could do such as disabling the intel gpu on device manager but it just does not work. The resolution goes lower and i won't even be able to change the resolution, in addition the games won't even properly fit in the screen and fps wont be higher than 50 when Intel gpu is disabled.
Forced the use of NVDA gpu on NVDA CONTROL PANEL too.
The laptop clearly uses Intel GPU and using NVDA much less than intel while playing games as i see that on task manager "performance" section too. Intel gpu is used way more while NVDA is being used like 10% while games are running.
My FPS drops all the way down to even 60-70 on LEAGUE OF LEGENDS.
Please upgrade BIOS so i can force 4060 to be used or do anything else to help me to fix my issue.

Hi @cruzeN,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop not using the right GPU!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here are some troubleshooting steps to force your NVIDIA RTX 4060 to be used instead of the Intel GPU while gaming:
1. Set Preferred GPU in Windows Settings
- Open Settings → System → Display.
- Scroll down and click Graphics Settings.
- Under "Choose an app to set preference", select:
- Desktop app if you downloaded the game from a website.
- Microsoft Store app if it's from the Microsoft Store.
- Click Browse, find the games .exe file, and select it.
- Click Options and choose High-performance (NVIDIA RTX 4060).
- Click Save.
2. Set NVIDIA GPU as Default in NVIDIA Control Panel
- Right-click on the desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Go to Manage 3D Settings → Global Settings.
- Set Preferred Graphics Processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
- Click Apply.
For specific games:
- Under Program Settings, select the game from the drop-down menu.
- Set Preferred Graphics Processor to NVIDIA RTX 4060.
- Click Apply.
3. Disable Power-Saving Features
a) Change Power Plan
- Open Control Panel → Power Options.
- Set it to High Performance or Ultimate Performance.
- Click Change Plan Settings → Change Advanced Power Settings.
- Expand PCI Express → Link State Power Management.
- Set it to Off.
b) Disable Windows GPU Power Saving
- Open Settings → Gaming → Game Mode.
- Enable Game Mode.
- Under Graphics Settings, enable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling.

4. Update or Roll Back NVIDIA Drivers
- Download the latest driver from NVIDIA’s website.
- Install using Custom Installation and select Perform a clean installation.
- Restart your laptop.
If issues persist, roll back to an older stable version:
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
- Expand Display Adapters → Right-click NVIDIA RTX 4060.
- Click Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver.
5. Disable Intel GPU (Use Caution)
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display Adapters.
- Right-click Intel UHD Graphics → Disable Device.
- Restart your laptop.
🚨 Note: If this causes display issues, boot into Safe Mode and re-enable it.
6. Check for a MUX Switch or Advanced Optimus (If Available)
Some laptops have a MUX Switch or Advanced Optimus, allowing direct GPU control.
- Check in BIOS for a setting like "GPU Mode", "Dynamic Mode", or "Discrete GPU Only".
- If unavailable, your laptop may rely on NVIDIA Optimus, which automatically switches GPUs.
7. Monitor GPU Usage
To confirm if the NVIDIA GPU is active:
- Open Task Manager → Performance → GPU.
- Run a game and check if GPU 1 (RTX 4060) is being used.
- If it still mostly uses GPU 0 (Intel), try MSI Afterburner to monitor real-time GPU usage.
8. BIOS Update & Reset
- Check your laptop manufacturer's website for a BIOS update.
- If an update is unavailable, try resetting BIOS:
- Power off the laptop.
- Press F2/F10/Del (depends on brand) to enter BIOS during startup.
- Find the Reset to Default option and apply it.
- Save & exit.
Try the steps in this order and let me know which one works! 😊
