Hp Laptop very slow. Noticed that out of 4GB physical memory only 281MB is available. Can i upgrade the physical memory?

Could this be the problem? After upgrade of memory, what else could i do that would help increase the performance?

What specs memory should i buy to upgrade?

Generally it is an average machine BUT its Memory is tooooooo small.  No where to run. You can upgrade to 16GB using 2x8GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM such as  Crucial 16GB kit or even 32GB of Crucial 32GB kit
