Hi @Web099,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the charging issue with your HP laptop could be caused by several factors.
Here’s a breakdown of potential causes and troubleshooting steps.
Charger and Charging Port:
- Check the Charger: Ensure that the charger is working properly. Try using a different charger with the same voltage and amperage to see if the issue persists.
- Inspect the Charging Port: Even if there are no visible defects, the charging port could still be faulty or loose. Gently wiggle the charging connector while it’s plugged in to see if it affects the charging behavior.
Battery Health:
- Battery Calibration: Sometimes the battery needs recalibration. Let the battery drain completely until the laptop shuts down, then charge it to 100% without interruption.
- Battery Health Check: HP laptops often have built-in diagnostics tools. You can use the HP Support Assistant or BIOS diagnostics to check the battery’s health.
BIOS and Drivers:
- BIOS Update: You mentioned you updated the BIOS, which is good. Sometimes a BIOS update can resolve power and charging issues.
- ACPI Drivers: Ensure that the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) drivers are up to date. You can check and update these through Device Manager.
Power Settings:
- Power Plan Settings: Check your laptop’s power settings to make sure there are no settings that might be affecting charging.
Battery Reset:
- Hard Reset: Perform a hard reset by disconnecting the charger, removing the battery (if possible), and holding the power button for 15-20 seconds. Reconnect the battery and charger, then try turning the laptop on.
Check for Impulse Charge Feature:
- Impulse Charging: If your laptop has an impulse charge feature, it typically helps extend battery life by charging the battery in short bursts. However, the issue you're describing seems more severe than what impulse charging would cause.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
