I am facing an overheating problem with my HP laptop. Even while performing very small or light tasks such as browsing the internet, working on documents, or watching videos, the laptop becomes very hot. The heat is noticeable on the keyboard area and the bottom panel, which makes it uncomfortable to use.
The cooling fan runs at high speed and makes noise, but even with the fan working, the laptop does not cool down sufficiently. This affects performance and sometimes causes the laptop to slow down.
I always use the device on a flat surface with proper ventilation, and no heavy applications are running during these times. Despite this, the overheating issue continues.
I am worried that prolonged overheating might damage the internal components. Please guide me with the next steps, whether servicing is required or if any part needs to be replaced

Hi @Agrim31,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Hi, thank you for sharing the details. I understand your HP Pavilion 14 (14-dv2000) is overheating even during light tasks, with noticeable heat on the keyboard and bottom panel, along with high fan noise and performance slowdowns. Since you’re already using it on a flat, ventilated surface, let’s try a few troubleshooting steps:
Update BIOS & Drivers – Visit the HP Software & Drivers page for your model and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics driver updates, as these often include thermal management improvements.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics – Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Run the System Test > Thermal Test to check for hardware-related heating issues.
Clean Air Vents – Dust buildup inside the vents or fan can restrict airflow. If comfortable, use compressed air to gently clean the vents.
Adjust Power Settings – In Windows, go to Settings > System > Power & Battery and select Balanced or Power Saver mode to reduce heat during light usage.
HP Command Center – If installed, open HP Command Center and switch the thermal profile to Cool or Quiet to improve temperature control.
I hope this helps.
