@Sharoneldo, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some effective steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the touchpad issue on your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0186TU:

Enable the Touchpad

  • Double-tap the top-left corner of the touchpad. Some HP laptops allow toggling the touchpad this way.
  • Or go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and ensure it's turned on.

Check Device Manager

  • Press Win + X → select Device Manager.
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Look for ELAN, Synaptics, or HID-compliant touchpad.
  • Right-click it → Update driverSearch automatically.

Reinstall the Touchpad Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad device → Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Use HP Support Assistant

  • Download from HP Support Assistant.
  • Run it to check for BIOS, chipset, and touchpad driver updates.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Unplug the charger and remove all peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect and power on.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly → press F2 for diagnostics.
  • Go to Component Tests > Mouse/Touchpad and run the test.

If the touchpad doesn’t appear in Device Manager, it might be a hardware issue—especially if the screen or palm rest was recently replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
