My laptop model 15-dy2131wm won't turn on. I used it yesterday and then shut it down. I picked it back up last night to use it and it wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in and let it charge.

It still will not turn on. I can see the indicator light while it is plugged in.

@HoneyMom2, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Let's walk through a step-by-step checklist to get your HP Laptop 15-dy2131wm powering back on.

  1. Basic Hard Reset This clears out any static power that may be causing a startup block.
    • Unplug the charger.
    • Hold down the power button for at least 15 seconds.
    • Plug the charger back in.
    • Try powering it on again.

  2. Check the Power Button Light and Fan Sounds When pressing the power button, do you see any flickers, hear fan noise, or keyboard backlight activity (if it has one)?
    • If yes but the screen is black, we may be dealing with a display issue.
    • If no signs of life, keep going.

  3. Try a Key Combo Reset (Windows + B) HP laptops support a BIOS recovery key combo that might wake it.
    • Plug in the charger.
    • Hold Windows + B and then press and hold the power button for ~5–10 seconds.
    • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for a few seconds.
    • Watch the screen or listen for any beeps or fan noise.

  4. External Monitor Test Connect it to an external display via HDMI and try to power it on. If the external monitor shows output, the internal screen might be the issue.

  5. Battery Disconnect (if removable/internal battery reset pinhole) Unfortunately, the 15-dy2131wm has an internal battery, but if you're comfortable opening the back panel:
    • Disconnect the battery from the motherboard.
    • Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
    • Reconnect and try again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
