According to chapter 1 of the service manual the notebook supports 2 x 8 GB of memory and only supports SATA M.2 SSD's not NVMe.
HP mt44 Mobile Thin Client Maintenance and Service Guide
You can install a 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD if you want.
It would be a gamble to install a NVMe SSD.
Does anyone have a NVMe SSD that you can try out before buying one?

That's great news.
I was wondering about the Ryzen processor motherboard being able to support NVMe, but I did not want to go out on a limb and tell you that a NVMe SSD would work.
NVMe SSD's work in most other notebooks with Ryzen processors.
I checked the Crucial memory/SSD report for your notebook and they did not list any NVMe SSDs for sale for that model.
