I already said. An SSD in an optical (DVD) caddy will be good only for storage. It will not be the system or boot drive and will not run to its full speed potential. The extra price of an SSD would be wasted in other words. Best setup is if you can put an M.2 in an M.2 slot and keep the internal HDD, but that depends on having the slot.

Here is the Service Manual:

The Service Manual shows an M.2 slot to the left of the hard drive as shown above. We have learned on this model that many specific laptops lack an M.2 port at that location. There is no definitive list of which specific models do and do not have the slot so you must investigate directly by opening the laptop. We do know that even if the slot is present, it will not support an NVME M.2 SSD, just a SATA.

Since a SATA M.2 SSD is no faster than a 2.5 inch SATA SSD you could just buy a 2.5 inch secure in the knowledge it will work, but would require removing the existing mechanical hard drive and you seem to want to keep yours.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Do I need to remove my existing mechanical hard drive if I want to have as SSD in System or need to remove CD drive and put SSD inside a caddy in place of CD drive?

thanks for your response.
