@D8FBC12V, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Troubleshooting Overheating Issues
Overheating can cause the PC to slow down, shut down, or even damage internal components. Here are the steps to troubleshoot:
a. Check for Dust and Dirt
- Dust can clog fans and vents, restricting airflow and causing the system to overheat. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean the fans and vents. Be gentle to avoid damaging the internal components.
b. Monitor System Temperatures
- Use some software to monitor CPU, GPU, and overall system temperatures.
- Ideal Temperature: Idle CPU temp should be between 30-40°C and load temperatures should not exceed 70-85°C for most processors.
c. Update Drivers
- Ensure your CPU, GPU, and power management drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause thermal issues.
d. Optimize Power Settings
- Check your system's power settings. Go to Control Panel > Power Options, and select Balanced or Power Saver instead of High Performance, which can push the system to work harder and generate more heat.
e. Apply Thermal Paste
- If you're comfortable opening the PC and it's an older model, you can reapply thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and heatsink. This helps in better heat transfer.

f. Ensure Proper Ventilation
- Ensure that your PC has adequate space for airflow, particularly around the intake and exhaust vents. Avoid using your PC on soft surfaces (like a bed or couch) that block air circulation.
2. Troubleshooting Battery Backup Issues
If you're having trouble with battery backup or short battery life, follow these steps:
a. Check Battery Health
- Many modern laptops have a built-in battery health tool:
- Windows: Open Command Prompt and type powercfg /batteryreport to generate a battery report. Check if the battery’s capacity has significantly degraded.
b. Adjust Power Settings
- Use Battery Saver or lower your screen brightness. Make sure that background processes or apps aren’t draining unnecessary power.
- In Windows, you can manage power settings under Control Panel > Power Options and choose Power Saver or Balanced.
c. Disable Unnecessary Background Apps
- Close any apps running in the background that you don’t need, as they consume battery power unnecessarily.
- On Windows, use Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to end processes that are consuming excessive resources.
d. Update Drivers and BIOS
- Ensure your battery drivers and BIOS are up to date. Sometimes, firmware issues can cause poor battery performance.
e. Calibrate the Battery
- If your battery isn’t reporting the correct charge, you may need to calibrate it. This usually involves charging it fully to 100%, then using it until it runs out of power and shuts down, and charging it back up to full again.
f. Replace the Battery (if necessary)
- If your battery health is poor (less than 50% of its original capacity), you might need to replace it. Batteries degrade over time and may need to be swapped out for a new one.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
