HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 (4U8D8AV)

My touchpad & cursor freezes very frequently. Also, it selects some other option other than where it shows it is selecting. The online hp support has checked the system and told there is no problem but I am facing the problem again and again. Please help me to fix the issue.

Hi @RB801,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Pavilion laptop touchpad and cursor. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to address the problem.

  • Update Drivers: Make sure your touchpad drivers are up-to-date. You can do this by going to the Device Manager, locating the touchpad, right-clicking, and selecting "Update driver."
  • Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Restart your laptop and see if the issue persists.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date by checking for Windows updates. Install any pending updates and restart your laptop.
  • Adjust Touchpad Settings: Navigate to the touchpad settings on your laptop and adjust the sensitivity or other relevant settings. This can be found in the "Mouse and touchpad settings" in the Windows Settings menu.
  • Disable Touchpad Gestures: Some touchpad gestures might be causing the issue. Try disabling certain gestures to see if it makes a difference.
  • Scan for Malware: Perform a thorough scan for malware using your installed antivirus software. Malware can sometimes interfere with system functions.
  • Test in Safe Mode: Boot your laptop in Safe Mode and check if the touchpad works properly there. If it does, it could indicate a third-party application causing the problem.
  • Check for Physical Damage: Ensure there is no physical damage to the touchpad. Clean the surface and check for any debris that might be affecting its performance.
  • Restore to a Previous State: If the issue started recently, consider restoring your system to a previous state using System Restore.

Remember to back up your important data before attempting any significant changes to your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Previously I contacted with HP care through whatsapp 2 times and both the times they told me to perform various steps along with troubleshooting; I performed all of them but still the problem has not got resolved. I remain very busy in my work. So, to take out time and do the same thing again and again becomes very difficult for me. I need a permanent solution for this. Hence, I am posting my problem here. Also, while lifting the laptop, cursor automatically selects everything on screen.

The steps that you have mentioned have already been performed as instructed by the HP Whatsapp Support but still the problem is there as it was before.
