Hi HP specialists,
my Notebook is a HP ProBook 470 G5 (Prod-Nr: 4QW93EA#ABD, S-Nr: [Personal Information Removed]) with Windows 11 Pro Version 23H2 (Build 22631.3880) and BIOS Q85 Ver. 01.28.OO.
I replaced the original 512GB-NVME-SSD by a 2TB Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus. Everything works fine, but the drive is rather slow. According to samsung, sequential reads should work with up to 3,500 MB/s, sequential writes up to 3,300 MB/s. Using crystaldiskmark I measured 1600 MB/s for Read / Write with Seq1M Q8T1 and 40 / 126 MB/s for Read / Write RND4K G1T1. I used Samsung Magician Software, but that didn't improve anything.
Do I have a chance to speed up the performance of my drive?
Thank you in advance for helpful tipps.
Bfn
Michael

Hi @Silvernerd1
I have seen this issue with this model of SSd in many HP models, the reason I don't know, but I know that they get better when you disable the disk cache, follow these steps.
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
- Expand Disk Drives.
- Right-click the drive on which you want to turn disk write caching on or off, and then click Properties.
- Click the Policies tab.
- Click to select or clear the Enable write caching on the disk check box as appropriate.
- Click OK.
Another alternative is to check for disk firmware upgrades, or update driver Intel RTS

Hi @resistencia,
thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, disabling disk cache even worsened the write performance from 1600 MB/s to 770 MB/s.
SSD firmware is up-to-date (checked before with Samsung Magician). Intel Rapid Storage Technology is not active on my system.

In Device Manager, on Storage Controllers check if you have the Intel RST installed

You have put the Samsung driver but these devices must use the Intel RST driver, is the best for this device

In this case it is best to first uninstall the driver, reboot and then install the Intel driver. Another alternative is to use the Microsoft NVME driver my laptop uses it and it is perfect. This can be found by changing the driver in Device Manager.

Since the Samsung SSD is my boot drive, I honestly don't dare to delete the Samsung NVME controller. Will my notebook stay bootable after deletion?
I also don't know from where to get the Microsoft NVME controller and where I can configure the SSD to use it.

To install the Microsoft NVMe Driver, log in to the Device Manager, then click on the driver and then update, then select search my computer. then click on the driver and then update, there select browser my computer..., then check show compatible and it should be there if not look in Microsoft drivers.
