Dear all,
one question regarding NVMe M.2 SSD upgrades in general.
For example at the moment one NVMe M.2 Samsung 512 GB SSD inside my Laptop. Like you know this SSD inside a metal shield , if i want to change now this SSD again one for example Samsung 990 Pro I need the heatsink from Samsung as well or only the metal shield of my old SSD or will i have any temperature issue without the heatsink in this case ?
Also i need any new temperature transfer paste or something else for this SSD ? As far as i know i only have to remove the SSD out of the metal shield and put the new one inside or i am wrong ??

That second image and the fourth images actually show heatsinks. There is a thermal pad between it and the chips on the SSD circuit board.
The fancy heatsinks from the manufacturer aren't really needed as long as you keep the air intake and exhaust ports clear of dust.

Generally, new SSD heat sinks have an thermal interface material (thermal pad) on them.
You can purchase a thermal pad for a 2280 M.2 SSD for only a few Euros at a laptop shop.

All you need is a thermal pad that will fit a 2280 format SSD.
Can you rephrase " So thermal pad is fine but i nead the heatsink from the 990 Pro or is no need?".
That statement should be broken down to a couple of statements to make what you are asking understandable.
Do you mean you have a Samsung 990 Pro with a thermal pad and are asking if you can reuse it?

The question is if the HP SSD shield has the function of a heatsink or if i buy a new SSD i need to use the heatsink from the manufacture and it will fit inside the HP SSD shield or i will insert the SSD without this HP shield ??
HP Shield:
Without Heatsink:
With Heatsink from Manufacture:
Same for 990Pro
