Hi, I have recently replaced my device's HD with a 2.5 inch SSD and I noticed a slot for an M.2 NVMe drive. Does my device support upgrading with an additional NVMe?

I'm quite new to hardware, but I've noticed that there are a few different types of SSD such as SATA SSD and PCIe NVMe SSD (as well as different keys - M&B ). My device's slot seems to only need an M key which to what I've seen translates to a PCIe NVMe SSD. I'm also including a picture of the slot below. If that is the case, will my device support the upgrade?

Thank you 🙂

Hi:

Your notebook's M.2 slot supports SATA SSD's only, not NVMe.

See chapter 1 of the service manual for the supported drive types...

Thank you, for your answer!

You're very welcome.

Yes, when you look at the M.2 slot, you would assume that a NVMe drive would work, because SATA drives have two notches cut into them, and NVMe drives have only one.

SATA M.2 SSD's also fit in the same slot just fine, but since the second notch is there, it makes no contact with the other pins needed for a NVMe drive to work.
