Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am planning to upgrade and get a new laptop, but need to maintain my present hardware M2 drive and memory.

Question:

Which of the modern range Elitebooks is compatible with

- mentioned M.2 SDD (80mm) -> Samsung 960 PRO M.2 1TB?

- 2x 16Gb DDR4 SODIMM -> Kingston KCP424SD8/16?

Thank you in advance,

Marcel

I think most of the Elitebooks are compatbile with NVME/PCIe M.2 disks. I am not going to undertake a survey of all the Manuals but I confirmed one of the more popular ones, the 840 G4 Elitebook is. I have a Zbook 15 G3 which will actually take 2 of them.

It (840 G4) will also take 32 gigs (2 x 16 gig) DDR4-2400

My Zbook 15 G3 has 4 RAM slots and will take 64 gigs DDR4-2133.

You ask about the Samsung 960 Pro NVME M.2 and there have been a couple reports of issues with it on HP consumer laptops like the Omen. It apparently uses a very new chipset. I have seen no reports of trouble with Elitebooks but the specified M.2 NVME module on HPs tends to be the Samsung PM961.

Post back with any more questions and enjoy your new laptop.

Well I thought that ALL Elitebooks are compatible, too..

BUT.. my Elitebook 840 G3 can only house a far smaller M.2 version SSD (I believe it's only 42mm).

Which is the reason ofmy question on this forum.

current models with 7th and 8th gen Intel processors are going to utilize the 2280 form factor. Yes just a couple years ago many HP business notebooks used 42 or 60 mm M.2 disks and those are no longer in common use.
